Guitar picks can be used more than just as a plucking instrument for guitars. These versatile and durable things can be used as a makeshift squeegee, a scratcher, or as a screwdriver for flat screws if they are solid or thick enough. But aside from their actual use and other unorthodox uses, guitar picks have another purpose, which is far more valuable than them being used. It is called pick collecting, and collectors around the world have steadily amassed their galleries of picks of varied beauty and historical significance.
The beauty of guitar pick collecting is that they are one of the easier to get memorabilia of any band, as picks either get dropped unexpectedly on gigs, or are gleefully thrown away by guitarists into the crowd. These picks can be valued by the hundreds of dollars if they can be proven to come from the older rock bands, but the true value to the collector will always be the intimacy they feel towards the rockers just by having something that was theirs. Collectors often compare cool guitar picks with other collectors, and even trade them with each other.
Collectors also have the tendency to collect random picks from gigs and band merchandise. These often printed picks can have the names of the bands or the concert inscribed on them, and would be a cool way of showing that you were there or you were listening to them before. Also, some artists produce picks that can be considered as an art form itself. Collectors find these whimsical canvases beautiful, and would sometimes play them for the fun of playing with a pick that is beautiful as well as useful. To genuine guitar pick collectors, you cannot compare cool guitar picks collections with any other as their picks not only play guitars, but on their heartstrings as well.
